ZERMATTERS ski school: Zermatt history on two boards

Zermatt is not only a symbol of Alpine history, but also the home of true snow enthusiasm. And right in the middle of it all since around 1900: the Zermatt Ski School - its roots run deep and for almost 100 years it has been living what the destination is all about: adventure, precision, passion.

The history of the Zermatt Ski School officially begins in 1929 - as one of the oldest ski schools in Switzerland. Back then, Zermatt was still a quiet village with summer tourism. But winter beckoned. The first locals climbed the slopes on foot, skied down using the Telemark technique and a new era began.

In the second half of the 1940s, Zermatt became a winter sports destination. Thanks in part to strong foreign currencies against the Swiss franc, many guests were drawn to the Alps in search of snow adventures. The Zermatt Ski School was ready and waiting - full of energy and enthusiasm.

With the founding of the ski school, more than just lessons were offered - a way of life was created.

In the 1950s and 60s, some of Zermatt's most experienced ski instructors even crossed the Atlantic to work as ski experts in the USA. They became ambassadors of Alpine culture, taught in renowned ski resorts, trained ski instructors there - and awakened a longing for the origins of skiing in many Americans. Many of their guests later returned to Zermatt to ski where their instructors had once learned - often with one sentence in their ears: "You have to ski where my Swiss instructor learned - in Zermatt."

Today, the team includes over 250 ZERMATTERS ski instructors - each one trained, motivated and personal.

The legends embodied what the ZERMATTERS ski school means today: continuity, dedication and style. It is far more than just a ski school - it is part of the soul of Zermatt.

Make your mark where the pioneers once made history. The ZERMATTERS Swiss Ski School has been taking you there - since 1929.
