Zermatt like a local: discover winter through the eyes of the ZERMATTERS

"When the first snow falls in the village, I'm particularly happy because it heralds the most beautiful time of year. I love the atmosphere at the start of the season: the first turns, feeling the snow again and all the smiling faces," says Melanie Arnold, Winter Product Manager at Zermatt Tourismus. She continues: "It's a special magic for me to be the first on the slopes, preferably on the Rothorn. The peace and quiet in the morning, the view of the snow-covered mountains and the perfectly groomed slopes give me a feeling of freedom. For me, winter in Zermatt is simply perfect: a state-of-the-art ski resort nestled in a natural setting that never ceases to amaze me."

Welcome to our blog post in which we introduce you to our winter experiences! To do this, we sat down with Melanie, among others. Not only does she know the Zermatt - Matterhorn destination like the back of her hand, she is also a federally certified snow sports instructor and regularly works for ZERMATTERS.

Glistening snow, wide slopes and a snow-covered village - winter in Zermatt is unique and enchanting every year. With us, every activity becomes an unforgettable experience!
As the official Swiss ski school in Zermatt, we offer ski and snowboard lessons: whether group courses or private lessons, for children or adults or whether beginners or experts - ZERMATTERS is the right address for any type of lesson, conducted by our trained snow sports instructors!

Classic skiing not enough for you? Don't worry: experience the learning of tomorrow in our CARV lesson, where specialized CARV units on your boot give you real-time feedback on your technique via app, or try a new variant of skiing with telemark lessons!
If you want to find out more about the different ski and snowboard options, read our blog post "Ski lessons with the ZERMATTERS - Our experiences".

Melanie's tip: When I need a bit of dolce vita and Italian flair, I head to Cervinia. Just one cappuccino is enough to make the world seem right. Simply "grande" in the truest sense of the word.

Away from skiing and snowboarding

Snowshoeing

For those who prefer a more leisurely pace, snowshoeing is a quieter activity where the loudest sound is the crunching snow under your snowshoes. This is the best way to discover the Zermatt winter landscape in silence: With our qualified mountain guides, you will discover the mountains safely and with pleasure. Snowshoeing is a leisure activity for everyone: whether for beginners, families, teams, experienced hikers or the curious - the offer is varied: discover a new perspective of the Matterhorn on the Matterhorn Glacier Trail, directly below the spectacular east face, or let your mountain guide surprise you on the half-day snowshoe tour.

You can also explore a lot without snowshoes. The area around Zermatt offers you a variety of winter hiking trails, which you can explore with your hiking guide!

Melanie's tip: I find the hike from the Riffelberg to the Gornergrat particularly beautiful with snowshoes, especially in the evening when the day is slowly coming to an end and the sun is slowly setting. It's rather leisurely, but balm for the soul.

Ski tours

Zermatt offers much more than fun on the slopes - with the right equipment and the right companion, the mountain world in Zermatt becomes more accessible. The majority of Zermatt's municipal area is the (almost) untouched mountain world itself - with 38 four-thousand-meter peaks, several glaciers and countless scenic highlights, there is plenty to experience with your touring skis!

With our mountain guides you are safe and professional on the way, whether with mountain guide athletes from the top of the world such as Andy Steindl, or other mountain guides from Zermatt, who know every scenic corner and the appropriate story, we have the right guide for every person and so your ski tour becomes an individual experience. From our taster ski tour to a ski tour to the highest Swiss peak, the Dufourspitze.

Are you interested in the combination of speed and winter alpinism? Then look forward to one of our next blog posts, in which we delve into the world of the Patrouille des Glaciers with Martin Anthamatten.

Melanie's tip: For ski tours, I particularly like the valley towards theÄbihorn. You're usually alone there. The peace and quiet and the immersion in nature are simply incredibly beautiful. The view of the "Hore" is unique there and offers a very special sight, unlike anywhere else. What you can't do without on a ski tour or when skiing in formation are lucky dates - preferably the large Medjool dates.

Cross-country skiing

In the neighboring village of Täsch, you will find a different world: instead of ski slopes, cable cars and the Matterhorn, you will find cross-country ski trails, flat terrain and peace and quiet. Another part of the Zermatt - Matterhorn destination to discover!
Experience cross-country skiing with your ZERMATTERS course instructor in your preferred variant: whether classic or skating, you can rent cross-country skiing equipment directly from our Nordic Center Täsch and various merchandise items will remind you of what you have experienced.

Melanie's tip: In contrast to other cross-country skiing areas, you don't need a cross-country ski pass in Täsch - the trail can be used free of charge!
