Highlights
Description
Your alpine tour starts early in the morning in Zermatt at the Matterhorn Express, where you will receive your equipment. Take the cable car across impressive glacier landscapes to the Plateau Rosa panorama station. At over 3,400 m, the tour begins over rocky terrain towards the Theodulhorn (3,469 m), which lies on the Swiss-Italian border ridge between Valais and Aosta Valley. From the summit, the trail continues over the Furggsattel to the Furgghorn (3,450 m), two challenging but scenically impressive destinations. The panoramic view over the four-thousand-metre peaks around Zermatt is breathtaking.
For the return, you strap on your crampons again and descend via the upper Theodul Glacier towards Trockener Steg. From there, the cable car takes you back down to the valley. This combination of rocky ridge, borderline experience and glacier passages is the perfect introduction to the world of alpine tours - varied, doable and safe.
