cable car ride from Zermatt to Klein Matterhorn and back
You will meet your guide at the bottom station of Matterhorn Express cable car (the time will be confirmed 2 days before). Enjoy a spectacular 50-minute cable car ride up to Klein Matterhorn/Matterhorn Glacier Paradise at 3,883m, where your glacier hike will start and finish. During the ascent you will be roped up at all times and your mountain guide will lead you safely across the glacier. Don't worry if you are new to crampons and snow shoes—you will learn how to use them during the tour. You will be back at the village in the early afternoon.
As early as possible, i. e. approximately 1 or 2 weeks in advance; short-term registration is possible subject to availability.
All participants must arrange their own insurance.
Ascending Zermatt's easiest 4,000-metre peak doesn't require any special knowledge or abilities; all you need is to be in good physical condition and to go hiking or skiing in the high-altitude surroundings of Zermatt for a few days prior to the ascent.
It's important to allow your body to adjust to the high altitude. Therefore, we recommend to arrive in Zermatt several days prior to the tour so as to give your body enough time to acclimatise. This ascent is also suitable for children aged 12 and over, under the condition that they are in good physical shape and well-acclimatised. It is during the very ascent that they will learn how to use crampons.
We recommend to buy your cable car ticket/ski pass in advance/online, before you actually meet your guide.
Minimum age for children and teenagers: for groups: 16 years; for private tours: 12 years.
After the successful Breithorn ascent, you will receive a certificate for your climb at the Zermatters office!
Please bring your ankle-high hiking boots, snow shoes (if necessaray, also available for rent in any of Zermatt's sports shops) as well as weatherproof clothing and a snack (see list).
