Live your dream

Matterhorn 4'478 m a.s.l.

(Rock tour)

The Matterhorn (Italian Cervino, French Le Cervin, Walliser german Hore or Horu) is one of the highest mountains in the Alps measuring 4'478 m a.s.l. Its striking shape and extensive alpine history make the Matterhorn one of the most famous mountains in the world.

The Matterhorn has not lost any of its appeal and is still considered one of the great alpine climbs. The mountain stands between Zermatt and Breuil-Cervinia. The north, east and west faces lie on the Swiss side and the south face lies on the Italian side.

The Matterhorn is usually climbed via the Hörnli ridge, however Zmutt ridge or Lion ridge are also possible on request.

Tour description

The day before the ascent, you will take the gondola from Zermatt (1'620 m) to Schwarzsee (2'583 m). From there you will follow the hiking trail to the Hörnlihütte (3'260 m). The hut ascent takes about two hours. Don't arrive at the top too early, as the dormitories are only ready for occupation from 02:00 p.m.. After dinner the procedure for the next day will be discussed with the mountain guide and a check of the equipment will be made. Then it is already bedtime. Because at 04.00 a.m. (depending on season) the hut warden wakes you up and after breakfast you have to put on your climbing harness, boots and helmet. Alpinists with mountain guides from ZERMATTERS line up at the front of the column and run ahead. This is an important aspect, especially in relation with your safety.

Enjoying the climbing on the Hörnli ridge with a mountain guide is pure pleasure, provided you bring the necessary fitness with you. The summit experience remains unforgettable. Once you have reached the summit ridge, you have a breathtaking panorama in front of you: Mont Blanc, the Grande Paradiso, the Bernese Alps and under yourself the Lion ridges to Italy, the steep north face and the Mattertal.

! Safety is the most important thing on the Matterhorn. If you have overestimated your abilities and are not sufficiently trained or too slow in this terrain, so that the mountain guide cannot guarantee a safe execution of the tour, he reserves the right to interrupt the tour at any time for safety reasons!
